The Round the Island Race, held this year on 7th July, is organised annually by the Island Sailing Club and is one of the largest yacht races in the world, regularly attracting over 1,700 boats and around 16,000 sailors. Competitors travel from all across the UK and Europe for the 50 nautical mile course around the Isle of Wight.
Starting on the Royal Yacht Squadron line the fleet races west up the Solent, to The Needles, round St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge buoy, and back into the Solent to the finish line at Cowes.
The race is a fantastic mix of world-famous sailors racing against local teams, families and first timers.
Cowes Week is one of the UK’s longest running and most successful sporting events. It now stages up to 40 daily races for around 1,000 boats and is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world.
The 8,500 competitors range from Olympic and world class professionals to weekend sailors. In excess of 100,000 spectators come to watch the sailing, enjoy the parties and live entertainment, and to experience the unique atmosphere. It is genuinely a one-of-a-kind event.
Racing takes place on the Solent, the stretch of water between the mainland UK and the Isle of Wight. The strong tides and the changeable weather make for challenging sailing conditions and ensure competitive racing. The 8 day event combines competitive close quarters racing with superb shoreside entertainment and social events.
We have several yachts available, giving you the chance to either sail for the day, the whole week, or even charter a wholeboat and bring your own race team along with you – so whatever your experience from novice to expert we have an option that will suit you.
